Division 3
Ages 8-10
Division 4
Ages 11-13
Division 5
Ages 14-18
What to Expect
Evaluations typically take 15-30 minutes per player. Here's what your player will do:
Check-In
Arrive at your assigned time slot. Check in at the registration table to receive your player number.
Throwing
Players throw to evaluators from a set distance. We assess accuracy, arm strength, and mechanics.
Fielding
Ground balls and fly balls are hit to players. We evaluate range, glove work, and throwing.
Batting
Players take several swings off a tee or soft toss. We look at stance, swing mechanics, and contact.
Base Running
A timed sprint from home to first base helps us assess speed and running ability.
Why Evaluations?
Every score, every constraint, every family — accounted for by an algorithm that never takes shortcuts.
Five Skills, One Score
Every player is individually assessed across hitting, running, fielding, catching, and arm strength. Players unable to attend in person complete online evaluations that are scientifically calibrated per division, per gender, and per skill — ensuring fair, apples-to-apples comparison.
An Algorithm, Not a Coin Flip
Our system generates ten separate drafts using five strategies, each running through seven phases. Coach children are placed first. Siblings stay together. Family practice nights are coordinated across divisions. Then skill, gender, and roster size are balanced across every team — automatically.
Verified & Fine-Tuned
After the best draft is selected, automated analysis reviews every team for balance across all five skill dimensions, gender distribution, and roster size. The committee fine-tunes with targeted swap recommendations before a single roster is finalized. Every division earns a balance grade.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if my child can't attend on Feb 7th?
Please contact us as soon as possible at director@rcys.net. We may be able to arrange an alternate evaluation time, or coaches can evaluate during the first practice.
Is this a tryout? Can my child be cut?
No! RCYS is a recreational league - every registered player makes a team. Evaluations are only used to balance teams fairly.
Should my child practice beforehand?
While not required, some light practice can help your child feel more comfortable. The evaluation is low-pressure and evaluators are friendly and encouraging.
Can parents watch?
Yes! Parents are welcome to watch from the designated viewing areas. We ask that you don't coach from the sidelines during evaluations.
What time should we arrive?
Evaluation times are assigned by division and will be emailed to registered families. Please arrive 10-15 minutes before your assigned time.
What happens after evaluations?
The team draft typically occurs within 1-2 weeks after evaluations. You'll be notified of your team assignment via email.
